William Thomas Charles

CHARLES-William Thomas “W.T.” Charles, age 86, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Charles and his sister, Bessie Vivinee Elliot. He was born in Greenville County, S.C. and was the son of the late William Oscar and Hettie Forrester Charles. Survivors include a niece, Nancy (Minis) Livingston of Dayton, Ohio; cousins, James and Kathy Charles of Greenwood, S.C.; Nena Gene and Tommy Williams of Ninety Six, S.C. and a host of friends. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 150. He traveled extensively with his work. He was a member of Langley Church of God. Music was his life, and he enjoyed playing his bass guitar and steel guitar with various groups. He traveled with Church of God music evangelists Roosevelt Miller and Vep Ellis. He was the backup bass player with the Blackwood Brothers Quartet. He and his sister worked together at a young age playing music and singing, helping in tent revivals and building of new churches in the Greenville area. He donated land for the parking lot for the Tremont Avenue Church of God in Greenville, S.C. Specials thanks are extended to his caregivers during his illness: Dot Walters, Dorothy Johnson, Agape Hospice nurses, Joy Lynn and Sonya, and especially, Dale Davis, whom he regarded as his “Stepson”, as well as Billy and Alice Kirkland, Edna Jay Kennedy, Danny Jay, Ed and Jeannie Mills and Benny Pou. W. T. and friends enjoyed the evenings of musical entertainment provided by his “Music Buddies” that included, Jerry Couch, Lefty Joyner, J. W. Rumley, Dennis and Jeri Atkins, Thomas and Ramona Brazzell, Jim Hopkins and drummer, Bobby Kennemer. A service, celebrating his life and homegoing, will be held at the Langley Church of God on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bennie O. Burton, Rev. Gene Brown and Rev. Charles Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service. The interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
