CATO- Mr. William Edward Martin. “W.E.†Cato, age 88, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for 66 years to Betty Murrell Cato and son of the late John S. Cato and the Late Hassie Martin Cato, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 6, 2012. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters; Olivia C. “Libby†(Dr. James L.) Bland of Aiken, S.C. and Diane C. (Charles) Price of Evans, Ga.; sisters, Sibley (Jimmy) Rhoads of Graniteville, S.C. and Annis (Charles) Barton of Langley, S. C.; brothers, Lake Cato of Florida, Irvin (Diane) Cato of Warrenville, S.C., Gerald (Phyllis) Cato of Rincon, Ga. and John Cato, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Jason Brinkley, Norman (Kimberly) Brinkley, Jaimee (Scott) Oneal, Patrick Bland, Nicholas (Adrian) Bland, Ryan Price, Stuart (Erin) Price, Whitney (Hal) Hoehn and nine great grandchildren. He was born in Vaucluse, S.C. and has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vaucluse, S.C. He was an avid fisherman. He was a US Army Veteran having bravely served his country during World War II. He was the owner of Cato Oil Company for many years; delivering fuel oil to the homes of many families up to his retirement in 1984. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, who could warm your heart with his beaming personality. He shall be greatly missed by his family and all whose lives he touched during the 88 precious years that God granted him on this earth; however, life for “W. E.â€, as he was so fondly known by his family and many friends, has not ended with death, as God has promised eternal life for all who believe on Him. He has just made that transition to his new Heavenly home where a “Crown of Life†awaits. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Monday evening, October 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating his life and home going will be held in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home, Tuesday, October 9th at 3:00 PM with Rev. J. B. Redd officiating. The interment will follow at the Vaucluse Cemetery with Military Honors. His Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials, in Mr. Cato’s honor, be made to the First Baptist Church of Vaucluse, P. O. Box 1, Vaucluse, S.C. 29801.
