NEW-On March 2, 2013, Mrs. Vernell Locklair New, age 83, entered into eternal rest in Aiken, S.C., after an extended illness. Mrs. New was born in Kitchings Mill, S. C. to the late Mr. Joseph Arlie Locklair and Mrs. Ida Mae Gunter Locklair. She subsequently lived in Aiken and Graniteville, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Alfred R. New of Graniteville, S.C. Mrs. New is survived by her three children, Marilyn N. (Lloyd) Chalker, Bath, S. C., Cynthia N. (Donald) Hatcher, Aiken, S.C. and Wayne A. (Carol) New, Langley, S.C. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Eva Ruth Campbell, Aiken, S.C. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Napier Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Visitors will also be welcome at the home of her son, Wayne A. New, 21 McClenden St., Burnettown, S.C., anytime on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. A celebration of Mrs. New’s life and the promise of the Resurrection will be conducted on March 6, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home by the Rev. Barry Antley, St. James Lutheran Church, Graniteville, S.C., followed by the interment at the Graniteville Cemetery, Graniteville, S.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund, St. James Lutheran Church, 200 Laurel Drive, Graniteville, S.C. 29829. A special thank you is extended by the family to Dr. Keith Sue-Ling, Augusta, Ga. and his staff for all the wonderful care he provided to Mrs. New for the past twenty-five years.
