He graduated from North Augusta High School in 1967 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The University of South Carolina in 1971, where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. He began his career in banking in 1972 as a loan officer with Farmers & Merchants Bank. During his career, he completed certification with the South Carolina Bankers School with the SC Bankers Association and later graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at LSU.

Tom was a man of remarkable strength and integrity, whose meticulous nature shone through in everything he did. He received an award for perfect attendance from elementary school through high school. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the mountains of Montana and the Great Smoky Mountains, where he often pursued his love of fly-fishing. He was a lover of all animals, bluegrass music, and playing the banjo.

Tom was a very fastidious man, proper in every way, committed to a disciplined exercise routine and a life of honor and integrity. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love of family, loyalty, and a life true to his values.
