Simmie B. Christie

CHRISTIE- Simmie B. Christie, age 90, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for 46 years to Barbara Swearingen Christie and son of the late R.W. Christie and the late Rosa Alice Quarles Christie, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 16, 2016. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Wayne Christie of Winston Salem, N.C., Victor (Nancy) Hammond of Louisville, Kentucky and Todd Hammond of Bath, S.C.; daughters, Susan Christie of Aiken, S.C., Carol (Bennie) Rodgers of North Augusta, S.C., Pam Woodward and Dawn (Ritchy) Proctor both of Aiken, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Rucker, a grandson, Shane Hammond and a very special son-in-law, Andy Woodward. He was born in Edgefield, S.C. but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a US Marine Veteran, having bravely served his country during World War II. During his working years, he was an electrician by trade and worked for Seminole Mill and Graniteville Company. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He shall be greatly missed by his family and all whose lives he touched during the 90 years that God granted him on this earth. A service, celebrating his life, will be held in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Rev. John Huff officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Aiken Memorial Park in Aiken, S.C. with Ritchy Proctor officiating. The Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rucker, Fred Rucker, Shawn Woodward, Philip Woodward, Bennie Rodgers and Ritchy Proctor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Side Baptist Church, 3351 Wagener Rd., Aiken, S.C. 29801.
