Shirley Whisenant Sheppard Glisson

Mrs. Shirley Whisenant Sheppard Glisson, 88, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday August 31, 2023, with her children by her side.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William C. Whisenant and Carrie Baker Fulmer; stepmother, who was like a second mother to her, Willie “Nelle” Whisenant; and stepson, Keith Glisson.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jerry Glisson; son, Michael (Zella) Sheppard; daughter, Kathy (Billy) Holley; daughter-in-law, Brigitte Sheppard; stepson, Mike (Teresa) Glisson; stepdaughter, Paula Hardee; stepbrother, Bobby Golden; grandchildren, Seth (Bre) Holley, Zachary (Stephanie) Holley, Kristin (Daniel) Huffman, Jessica (Reese) Sellers, Jerome (Vicky) Spurlock, Priscilla Hickox, Brad (Stephanie) Glisson, Paul (Jackie) Glisson, Anthony (Candie) Medlock; and 19 great grandchildren.

Shirley graduated from Leavell-McCampbell High School and worked for the Graniteville Company for over 30 years before retiring. She was a homemaker, and her family was her priority. She was a member of Breezy Hill Baptist Church for 67 years and served as the Sunday School teacher for the Young Ladies Class for many years. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and eating popcorn with Michael, writing poetry, and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Janet Hubbs for being a very special caregiver and friend, and Gentiva Hospice, Margaret, Brittney, Monica, Angela, Virgil, and Tammy for the care they gave for Shirley.

A Memorial Service, celebrating her life, will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday September 6, 2023 at Breezy Hill Baptist Church.
