Sgt. David Jennings Burton

BURTON-Sgt. David Jennings Burton, Aiken Public Safety Retired, age 61, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband of Carol Faulkner Burton and son of the late Hugh J. Burton and the late Mary Jane Klein Burton, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 24, 2014. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Beth Burton (Tim) Crabb; a son Michael David (Serena) Burton all of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren, Kimberly Sharpe, Michael Burton, David Burton and Marihelen Burton. He was born in Danville, Illinois but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. He was a retired Sergeant with the City of Aiken Public Safety, his working career extending from September 29, 1980 until January 20, 2012. During this time, he was responsible for training the new recruits the art of driving the patrol cars. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He received an award for Heroes from 911. Sgt. Burton also received special commendation for his work training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and multi-media first aid. He was one of the first members of the EMT’S. During his working years, he was truly a public servant and loved every minute of it. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Graniteville, S.C. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends, but there is a consolation in knowing that he has finished life’s journey, leaving behind a legacy of a job well done. He is now at peace with his Maker, the Lord Jesus Christ and has gone to receive his much deserved “Crown of Life”. A service, celebrating his life, will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Graniteville on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating, assisted by Speaker Bryan Mills. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The active Pallbearers will be Brian Mills, Chris Carter, Porter Smith, Ken Leonard, Dave Flanders, Dawn Drasher, Josh Faulkner, John Eargerton and Ben Harm. Members of the City of Aiken Public Safety will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his wife at 159 Long Creek Dr., Aiken, S.C. 29803, to assist with the medical expenses. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, October 27th from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
