WOOD-Sarah Hiers Wood, age 80, of Aiken, S. C., wife of the late John H. Wood, Sr. and daughter of the late Willie Irvin Hiers and the late Rebecca Grubbs Hiers, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 6, 2014. She is survived by daughters, Sharon F. Griffin of Aiken, S.C., Becky W. Graham of Newberry, S.C. and Joyce J. Wood of Aiken, S.C.; sons, John Keith Wood, John H. Wood, Jr. both of Aiken, S.C., Jimmie C. Wood of Warrenville, S.C. and Charlie H. Wood of Aiken, S.C.; a sister, Ila Mae Ritchie of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, James L. Hiers and Lee Allen Hiers both of Aiken, S.C.; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughters, Mary E. Lowe and Margie Wood Mitchell, granddaughters, Esther Sheryl Wood and Caroline Victoria Wood, a grandson, Jimmie C. “Jimbo” Wood, Jr. and a great granddaughter, Haley E. Baer. She was born in Barnwell County, S.C. but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. She retired from the Aiken County School District as a Lunchroom Manager. She was a member of the Aiken Regional Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville, S.C. She loved her family and her church family, but above all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She shall be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched and influenced during the 80 precious years that God granted her on this earth; however, she shall lived on in the hearts of her loved ones. Even in death, life for her has not ended, she has just made that great transition to her new Heavenly home where all is peace and joy and no sad goodbyes are ever spoken. “To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord”. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Saturday evening, November 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service, celebrating her life and home going will be held at St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Alan Quarles and Pastor Brancie Stephens officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers wil be Brent Hiers, Gary Grice, Chris Wood, John H.
