Ruth Jay Whittle

December 31, 1969 — March 13, 2011

WHITTLE- Mrs. Ruth Jay Whittle, age 85, of Warrenville, S.C., wife of the late W. Ronald Whittle and daughter of the late Carlos Ellis Jay and Lessie Hutto Jay entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 13, 2011. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Ronnie and Don Hudson of Warrenville; a grandson Darryl Hudson and his wife, Phyllis; a granddaughter, Leslie Morris and her husband, Lenwood, all of Aiken; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and A. G. Blackmon of Warrenville; brothers and a sister-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Roma Jay of Aiken and David Jay of Rockingham, N.C. She was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Robert Jay. She was born in Orangeburg County but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S. C. She was retired from the Payroll Dept. of Graniteville Company after over 42 years of service. She was a dedicated and active member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Her motto could have easily been “Others”, as she was always doing for everyone. She would visit, care and cook for the sick. Yes, she was very community minded, and she shall be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 85 years that God granted her on this earth; however, even now life for her has not ended, as she has just made that great transition to her Heavenly home, where she shall receive her much deserved “Crown of Life.” She shall also live on in the hearts of her family. Family and friends will meet to celebrate her home going at St. John United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Bruce Blackmon, John White, Leon Hayes, Lanny Hudson, Milton Rogers and Bob Humphries. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Tuesday, March 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the St. John United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 38, Graniteville, S.C. 29829. Mrs. Whittle will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Napier Funeral Home, Inc., 315 Main St., Graniteville, S. C. 29829 is in charge of the funeral arrangements. To sign our guest registry, please log on to www.napierfuneralhomeinc.com.
