Cross-Rufus M. Cross, age 76, of Edgefield, S.C., loving husband for 54 wonderful years to Carolyn Derrick Cross and son of the late Clarence Cross and the late Katie L. Williams Cross, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Dwayne Cross of Edgefield, S.C. and Clay (Lisa) Cross of Clark Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Regina (Tim) Salyer of Martinez, GA.; brothers, Henry Carol (Jerry) Cross of Baker, FL. and Henry T. (Sandy) Cross of Cocoa, FL.; sisters, Eloise LeVan of Great Falls, S.C., Rita (Gerald) Holl of Huntsville, AL. and Katie Mae (John) Windham of Donaldsonville, GA.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and James Cross. He was born in Colquitt, GA. He was of the Pentecostal Faith. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired Welder with SRS. He received a Forty-Year Membership Certificate on July 19, 2016 from the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada in appreciation of his long-term contribution to the ideals and objectives of the United Association. His wife stated that in addition to being her dedicated and loving husband, he was also her best friend, a good father and grandfather to her children. Next to his family, he had a great love for fishing and working with woodwork; however, his main interest was welding. A man of his caliber shall be greatly missed by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched during the 76 years that God granted him on this earth. Death cannot destroy precious memories, and he shall live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones. A service, celebrating his life, will be held in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home Sunday Sept. 11th at 3:00 PM with Rev. Phillip Hamilton and Chaplain Daniel Wager officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The interment will be private. The Pallbearers will be Joshua Cross, James Claxton, Brett McNeill, Taylor Carter, Justin Cross, Ryan Cross and Colton Cross.
