Robert Dean Brantley

BRANTLEY-Robert “Dean” Brantley, age 72 of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for 50 years to Lana Meyer Brantley and son of the late Milo Brantley and the late Dessie Brantley, went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016, after a lengthy battle with stomach cancer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Chad R. Brantley of Aiken, and Alan D. (Crystal) Brantley of Bath; brother-in-law, Thomas Bernard Meyer (late Annette), Langley; sisters-in-law, Mary Belle Meyer Chance (late Donald) Newport, NJ and Delois Meyer (Carl) Insley, Langley; four grandchildren, Caleb McMahan Brantley, North Augusta, Taylor Brantley, Gloverville and Derek and Tyler Brantley of Bath; three step-grandchildren, Blakeley Wright, Cole and Samantha Wilson. He was preceded in death by brothers, James D. Brantley and Aubrey Brantley. He was born in Graniteville, S.C. but has been a resident of Aiken, S.C. since 1993. Dean joined the US Navy in 1961 and served until 1965. He was assigned to the USS Intrepred in 1963 and was aboard during retrieval of the Gemini III spacecraft and astronauts and their return to Cape Kennedy. Dean was employed as a truck driver by Crete Carrier but previously had worked for Little Debbie and Lance. He enjoyed family vacations at Fripp Island and riding his Harley Davidson. The funeral service will be conducted by the Honorable Carl Insley in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 9, 2016. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening, October 8th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the funeral home to assist with the funeral expenses.
