Retired Staff Sgt. John J. "Joe" Blackwell

BLACKWELL-Retired Staff Sgt. John J. “Joe” Blackwell, Sr. United States Marine Corps, age 81, of Graniteville, S.C., loving husband of Mrs. Dorothy Johnson Blackwell for 64 years, entered into rest at his residence on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Surviving with his wife, are three children; Lee Roy (Patricia) Blackwell, John J. (Glenda) Blackwell, Jr. and Debora Blackwell (Ricky) Williams; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Blackwell was born in Miami, Florida but has made Graniteville his home. He was a retired Staff Sergeant with 20 years of dedicated service with the United States Marine Corps having proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked for and retired from Pollock Office Machine Company in Augusta, Ga. He was a lifetime member of Samuel H. Swint Post #77 in Graniteville, S.C. A service celebrating his life and home going will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating. The interment with full Military Honors, will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Graniteville, S.C. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Friday evening, August 9th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Inc., 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 30, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
