Gambrell-Ms. Mildred Platt Gambrell, age 94, of Aiken, S.C., wife of the late James Harold Gambrell, Sr. and daughter of the late Dr. Edward E. Plattt, Sr. and the late Nelle Sign Platt, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 14, 2013. She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Ann Hall of Aiken, S.C..; sons, James Harold Gambrell, Jr. and his wife, Julia of Aiken, S.C., William Randolph Gambrell and his wife, Tina of North Augusta, S.C.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. Up to her failing health, she was a very active member of St. John United Methodist Church, where she served as Communion Stewart and taught Sunday school for many years. After graduating from Lander College, she taught school for underprivileged children for a number of years. She was an avid bridge player, homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and friend, who shall be greatly missed by her family and all whose lives she touched during the 94 wonderful years that God granted her on this earth; however, death cannot destroy precious memories, and she shall live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones. A service celebrating her life and home going will be held at St. John United Methodist Church on Monday morning, June 17th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor, may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 38, Graniteville, S.C. 29829.
