May Jean Averett Norton

December 31, 1969 — October 10, 2015

NORTON-Mrs. May Jean Averett Norton, 73, of Trenton, S.C., loving wife of Oscar Lee Norton and daughter of the late Carlton Averett and the late Minnie Ree Gay Averett, entered into eternal rest at her residence Saturday morning, October 10, 2015. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Debra Barfield, Brenda (Jimmy) Ard both of Aiken, S.C. and Shirley (Eddie) Yassney of Grovetown, Ga.; a son, Bill (Robin) Prescott; a sister, Ree (Tommy) Turner both of Hephzibah, Ga.; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Scott, Betty Cook, Claudine Prather; brothers, Broadus Averett, J. T. Averett and Carlton Averett, Jr. and a grandson, Jesse Joe Yassney. She was born in Zebana, Georgia but had been a resident of Aiken County for the past 30 years. She was a retired Salad Room Manager with Western Sizzler Steak House. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was fondly known by everyone as “MaMa Heart”. She loved gardening, working with flowers and just anything to do with her family and the outdoors. Her family stated that she was the very best “Grandma” in the whole wide world. She certainly will be missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 73 years that God granted her on this earth. Death cannot destroy precious memories, and she shall live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. A graveside service, celebrating her life and homegoing, will be held at Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodland Dr., 22259 U.S. l in Matthews, Ga. 30818 on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Cemetery by 2:30 PM. The family will receive friends at Napier Funeral Home, this Tuesday evening, October 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
