Maxine Butler Cushing

April 21, 1934 — June 4, 2017

Cushing-Maxine Butler Cushing, age 83, of Prosperity, S. C., widow of CW3 William Gerald Cushing and daughter of the late John Walker Butler and the late Goldie Tyler Butler, entered into rest at her residence on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She is survived by daughters Laura (Rodney) Cushing Williams of North Augusta, S.C., Tammy Cushing Gordon of Prosperity, S.C. and Kelley Jean (David) Hanks of Prosperity, S.C.; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Cottingham. She was born in McColl, S,C. and traveled over the United States and overseas during her years of marriage. During her working years, she was a receptionist for Hull-Towell-Norman & Barrett, Attys. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was a Chartered member of the CSRA Shag Club. She never met a stranger and was very instrumental in assisting and solving everyone’s problems. She really enjoyed traveling. Her family stated that she was the “Pillar of the Community” at Lake Murray. She loved her family, and they in turn loved her. A woman of her caliber shall be greatly missed by her family and all whose lives she touched during the 83 precious years that God granted her on this earth. Death is not the end as she shall live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones. A service, celebrating her life, will be held at St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville, S.C. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 PM until the hour of service. The interment will follow the service at the Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Brandon Taylor, Scott Deason, Zachary Deason, Jason Cain, Bryson Cain and David Hair. Richard Holiday, Don Bryant, Richard Conner and Allen Andrews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
