Marion A. Haigler

HAIGLER-Mr. Marion A. Haigler, age 89, of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of Aiken, S.C., passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Hospice Of Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Haigler was born in Orangeburg County on August 20, 1924. He was the son of the late Eugene Theodore Haigler of Ridgeway and Flossie Aletha Avinger Haigler Griffin of Miami, Florida. Marion was raised by his paternal grandparents, the late John David and Eliza Walling Haigler of Orangeburg. He attended the public sschools of Orangeburg and Fairfield Counties and was a member of South Aiken Baptist Church In Aiken. In 1942 he entered the US Army and was stationed in Puerto Rica. After dutiful service to his country, Mr. Haigler worked for Liberty Life Insurance and the New Jersey Dept. of Correction. He retired from the DuPont Savannah River Plant after 32 years of service. Mr. Haigler was married on September 20, 1947 to the late Willett Moseley Haigler of Winnsboro for 54 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Leigh Ann Haigler (Tom) Soder of Savannah, Ga., and Wanda Jeannine Haigler of LaGrange, N. C.; two sisters, Shirley Haigler (Bob) Clyburn of Irmo, S.C. and Mary Jean Haigler (Furman) Christenson of Surfside Beach, S.C. and also a special nephew, Lewis “Buddy” Haigler of Winnsboro, S.C. ; four grandsons, Ryan, Sean and Evan Kramer of Kinston, N. C. and Eric Soder of Savannah, Ga. He was a very kind man who never met a stranger. He shall be greatly missed by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched during his lifetime; however, death cannot destroy precious memories, and he shall live on forever in the hearts of his many friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service. A service celebrating his life will be held, immediately following the visitation, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Wilson officiating. The interment will follow the service at the Graniteville Cemetery in Graniteville, S.C. The Pallbearers will be his nephews: Jeff Clyburn, Stephen Clyburn, Brian Clyburn, Andy Christenson, Sean Christenson and Trey Padua.
