SMITH-Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Patterson Smith, age 66, of Beech Island, S.C., beloved wife of Robert F. “Rob†Smith, Sr. and daughter of the late Clarence Patterson, Sr. and the late Annas Hodson Patterson, entered into rest on Saturday, August 20, 20ll. In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by a daughter, Shannon Renee Smith of Charleston, S.C.; a son, Robert (Robbie) F. Smith, Jr. of Warrenville, S.C.; a brother, Clarence (Buddy) W. Patterson, Jr. and his wife, Brenda; a sister, Joyce Patterson Bell and her husband, Kirk; nieces, Stephanie Anderson Deaner, Jennifer Patterson Wooley and Miranda Patterson; nephews, Jason Patterson, Matthew Smith and David Smith. Margaret was born in Augusta, Ga. on August 19, 1945 and lived the first ten years of her life in Worth County, Ga. The family then moved to Warrenville, S. C. where she attended the local elementary school and graduated from Leavelle McCampbell High in Graniteville. Other than the several years her husband served in the U. S. Air Force, she remained a resident of Aiken County. She was of the Baptist faith. She worked in insurance and real estate for a number of years before deciding to stay home after her daughter was born. She was very active in her children’s activities and served as a dedicated volunteer at school during their elementary and middle school years. Before her illness, she loved working in the yard, writing poetry, working with ceramics and was always ready to travel. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was a kind and caring person and was very passionate about animals; especially dogs, and she adopted many strays. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Cartin officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, August 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Family and friends may also call at the residence. The family would like to acknowledge and thank her caregiver, Lauren Switzer for the compassion and care given to Margaret during her illness. Memorials may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, Ga. 30904.
