Magdalene Johnston Whittle Daly

DALY-Ms. Magdalene “Lynn” Johnston Whittle Daly, age 85, of Aiken, S.C., daughter of the late Lawton L. Johnston, Sr. and the late Lois Posey Hurley, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 19, 2011. She is survived by her children with Jack Whittle and Donald Daly. She was a loving mother to her son Patrick Kelleher Daly and his wife, Brenda of Louisville, Kentucky; her three daughters, Candace D. Scottow of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Jacqueline D. Valicenti and her husband, Joseph S. Valicenti, Jr. of St. John’s Island, S.C., Elizabeth D. de Verteuil and her husband, Michael of Noisy-Le-Roi, France. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Anne Valicenti. She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Slack, William Scottow, Joseph P. Valicenti, Andreana Valicenti, MacKenzie Daly, Ashley Daly and Louise de Verteuil and two great grandchildren, Evan and Braxton Slack. She was also preceded in death a longtime companion, Charles Stoeppler. She was born in Asheville, N.C. but had been a resident of Graniteville, New York and Aiken. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Next to her family, came her love for playing duplicate bridge, dancing and gardening. She was a former co-owner and bookkeeper of the old J. M. Posey and Sons Funeral Home and Furniture store in Graniteville. She shall be greaty missed by her family, many friends and all whose lives she touched during the 85 wonderful years that God granted her on this earth. A celebration of her life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Gene O’Neil Wilson officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be William Scottow, Mackenzie Daly, Lawton Johnston, Charlie Stoeppler, Kiv Slack and George Alexander. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. Memorials, in Magdalene’s memory, may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
