ARTHUR-Mrs. Lucille Craig Arthur, age 91, answered God’s call on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at her home in Graniteville, S.C. Born in Graniteville on February 5, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and the late Mattie Owens Craig. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Irvin Arthur and two brothers, Leon Craig and Percie Craig. Mrs. Arthur is survived by a son Stephen E. (Renee) Arthur of Graniteville, a daughter, Martha A. (Ray) Litts of Aiken, grandchildren, Meaghan (Sean) of Evans, Chelsea Arthur and Joseph Litts; a brother, Carl (Eleanor) Craig of Graniteville; a sister-in-law, Gladys White of Aiken; several nieces and nephews. She was a lifetime member of St. John Methodist Church in Graniteville. She was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class, St. John Seniors and served on various committees within her church. She was a member of the Graniteville Leisure Club and really enjoyed traveling with all of her friends. Mrs. Arthur served her country during World War II as a US Navy Wave stationed in Washington, DC. After returning to post war civilian life, she was employed at Graniteville Company as a secretary to the president. She later worked for the Aiken County School System as a lunchroom Supervisor at Warrenville and Byrd Elementary Schools. In recent years, she worked for Collie Concessions at the Augusta National Golf Club on her favorite hole #13 and Amen Corner. She worked with many people much younger than her that fondly referred to her as “Granny”. She last worked at the tournament in 2011 as a vivacious 90 year old. A service celebrating her life and home going will be held this Sunday evening, November 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM at St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Javed Shaw, Frank Moseley, John White, Blake White, Steve Weeks and Ross Weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Methodist Church, P. O. Box 38, Graniteville, S. C. 29829.
