Louise Ready Strother passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 13, 2024, at her Graniteville, SC home. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Duane Strother, and her three sons, Brian (Carla) Strother of Canton, GA, Bruce Strother of Aiken, SC, and Steven (Kim) Strother of Graniteville, and three granddaughters, Dr. Ashley (Dr. Alec Fraser) Strother of Vancouver, BC, Dr. Ellyn Strother of Birmingham, AL, and Sydney Strother, LPCA of Aiken, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Grady and Ruth Floyd Ready, and brothers Earl Ready and Gary Lawton Ready.
Louise was born February 28, 1931, in Columbia, SC, but moved with her family to Graniteville in 1933. She was a 1949 graduate of Leavelle McCampbell High School and attended USC-Aiken in later years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and was a member of Graniteville First Baptist Church, where she served for over four decades as pianist and organist, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and served as the church secretary for several years.
She worked at Savannah River Laboratory until 1961, when she left the full-time workforce to raise her family. In addition to time spent as the Graniteville First Baptist church secretary, she also worked in the office at Leavelle McCampbell High School and in the office of Dr. William Pryor.
Louise loved being Mema to her granddaughters and having them visit to play dress up and have tea parties. She was affectionately known as Miss Louise to the neighborhood children and was famous for hosting her annual Easter egg hunts and summer pool parties.
A celebration of her life will be held at Graniteville First Baptist Church at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 17. Family visitation will be in the church sanctuary one hour before the service. Burial will be immediately following the funeral service in the Graniteville Cemetery.
