Leslie Sims Johnson, Jr.

JOHNSON-Mr. Leslie Sims Johnson, Jr., age 66, of Aiken, S.C., loving husband for 42 years to Mellanie Hurt Johnson and son of the late Leslie Sims Johnson, Sr. and the late Jessie Wilson Johnson, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Claudia P. Hurt of Aiken, SC; a son, Leslie Johnson, III and his wife Melanie Lyons Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters, Kara Kristine Johnson and her companion, Allen Burnett of Aiken, SC and Ashley Kaye Johnson of Columbia, SC; a sister, Kaye McGarty of Hilton Head, SC and a granddaughter, Kylie Kincade Burnett of Aiken, SC. He was born in Richmond, Virginia but has been a resident of Aiken County for the past 15 years. He was a US Marine Veteran having bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Aiken Marine Corp. He had worked as a Grants Manager for the Lower Council of Government for Aiken County, and he held a Masters Degree in business and computers. Ever the philosopher, he was a loving husband, wonderful father, and quite obviously was also a real family man, as his family stated that he fought for his family to the very end. Needless to say, he shall be greatly missed by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched along the way. A memorial service with Military Honors and a celebration of his life, will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church in Beech Island, SC with Sis. Ellen Francis and Mother Charlotte presiding. The interment will be private. Immediately following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at Thomas Mixon’s residence in Beech Island, SC.
