GRIFFIS-Mr. Jerry L.”Zero” Griffis, age 65, of Graniteville, S.C., son of the late Marvin Griffis and the late Rosie Hodges Griffis entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 13, 2014. He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Griffis; a son, Joshua (Sarah) Griffis; ex-wife of 42 years, Joan Hodges Griffis all of Graniteville, S.C.; a brother, Wayne Griffis of Kinsley, Ga. and five grandchildren. He was born in Green Cove Springs, Florida but has been a resident of the local area since 1973. He was a retired school teacher with the Aiken County School District. He enjoyed working with the youth as was evidenced by his many years of coaching various ball teams. He touched many lives by imparting his knowledge of auto mechanics at the Aiken County Career Center. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with the Bluegrass Group of which he was a member. He was a member of the Masonic Star Lodge #99 in Graniteville, S.C. He was a dedicated member of Christian Heritage Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was just what you would call a well-rounded “Southern Gentleman”, who will be greatly missed by his family and all whose lives he touched during the 65 years that God granted him on this earth; however, he has now completed life’s journey and is at peace with his maker, the Lord Jesus Christ. Earth’s loss is truly Heaven’s gain. The family will receive friends at Christian Heritage Church on Ascauga Lake Rd. in Granitevillle, S.C. Monday evening, February 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating his life will be held in the Church Sanctuary at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 with Rev. Stephen Phillips officiating. The interment with Masonic Rites will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Wade Baggott, Christopher Johnson, Nicholas Alvanos, Eddie Turner, Terry Watson and Vernon Lunsford. The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to his friend and caregiver, Diane Johnson. Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main Street, Graniteville, S.C. is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
