James E. "Dick" Barton, Sr.

December 31, 1969 — November 8, 2013

BARTON-Mr. James E. “Dick” Barton, Sr., age 84, of Gloverville, S.C., loving husband of Dorothy Bonnett Barton and son of the late Andrew J. Barton and the late Elizabeth Prescott Barton, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 8, 2013. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Phillip (Mary) Barton of Aiken, S.C., Ronald (Linda) Barton of Gloverville, S.C., Michael (Sherry) Barton of Warrenville, S.C., Robert (Aimee) Barton of North Augusta, S.C. and Larry (Tracey) Barton of Graniteville, S.C.; a daughter, Gail (Robbie) Leopard of Graniteville, S.C.; a sister, Iva Taylor Porterfield of Gloverville, S.C.; a special sister-in-law, Jessie “Coot” Beard of Gloverville, S.C.; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James E. Barton, Jr. He was born in and was a lifetime resident of Aiken County, S. C. He retired from Graniteville Company having worked with the Overhaulers. He was a dedicated member of the Gloverville First Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, who shall be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched during the 84 precious years that God granted him on this earth; however death is not the end, as God has promised eternal life for all who believe in Him. He has just made that great transition to his new Heavenly home where all is peace and joy and no more sad goodbyes are ever spoken. The family will receive friends at the Gloverville First Baptist Church this Monday evening, November 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating his life and home going will be held at the Church on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Napier, Rev. Stephen Phillips and Rev. Jack Scott officiating. The interment will follow the service at the Langley Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Alex Baker, Mark Barton, Roy Barton, Al Norris, G. W. Ashley and W. L. Barden. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to the Gloverville First Bapitst Church Van Fund, P. O. Box 157, Gloverville, S.C. 29828.
