WILLIAMS-Entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 11, 2010, Mr. Jack Willliams, age 88 of Graniteville, S.C., husband of the late Elnora Eubanks Williams and son of the late Jack Williams, Sr. and the late Addie Lazar Williams. He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law; Rodney L. and Laura Williams of North Augusta, S.C. and Donnie Williams of Graniteville, S.C.; a sister, Doris Johnson of Graniteville, S.C., five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Timmerman. He was born in Allendale, S. C. but moved to Aiken County in the early l940’s and has been a resident of this area from that time on. He retired from S. C. Electric & Gas Co., after over 30 years of dedicated service. He served his country during World War II as a Medic with the Army’s 100th Infantry Division stationed in France and Germany. As a result of being wounded on the battlefield three times while assisting others, he received a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. In addition, he received a Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster for heroism in battle, a Combat Medical badge and a Presidential Citation. He was truly one of the heroes of the Greatest Generation. While his family was his number one love, his love for his church ranked a close second. Soon after coming to Graniteville, he began attending St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville and has been a loyal and dedicated member for over 68 years. His service to the church included serving on numerous committees throughtout the years and being available to assist the church in any way possible when called upon. He was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and served as the church’s Head Usher as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Jack was a Master Mason and Past Master of Star Lodge #99 in Graniteville. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #77 in Warrenville. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, he played on Gregg Park softball teams and was one of the top fast pitch pitchers in the area. Other hobbies included gardening, traveling with Army “Buddies†and watching Atlanta Braves Baseball. He was a loving and compassionate father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed by all of the family members, but we rejoice in knowing that he is now in Heaven with his greatest love-his wife of 68 years, Elnora. A celebration of his life service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville with Rev. Alan Quarles and Rev. Gene Wilson officiating. The
interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Sam Eubanks, Steve Eubanks, Kenneth Johnson, Ray Brown, Joe Taylor and Bradley Holmes. Members of Masonic Star Lodge #99 in Graniteville will serve as Honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Napier Funeral Home tonight, Wedneday, October 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
