BEARD-Entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, SFC US Army retired, Herbert Beard, age 86 of Warrenville, S. C., loving husband for 68 ½ years to Elizabeth Louise Mills Beard and son of the late Dowdy Beard and the late Louise Clark Beard. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Patty & Jimmy Bryant of Graniteville, S.C., Marion and Joey Lynn of Augusta, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Valeria Beard of Warrenville, S.C., Eddie and Sandra Beard of Graniteville, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Jean Setcler of Beech Island, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Beard of Augusta, Ga.; two special nieces and their spouses, Diane and Irvin Cato, Brenda and Frank Taylor; numerous other nieces and nephews; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons; Tommie Beard and Robert “Bobby” Beard. He was born in Warrenville, S. C. and spent most of his life, with the exception of his Army years, in Aiken County, S. C. SFC Beard retired from the US Army with twenty-two years of service. During these service years, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II and the Korean Defence Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and two sharp shooter medals. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10601 in Aiken, S.C. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a wonderful husband, Daddy, Papa, granddaddy and uncle. He was just a very special man, who never met a stranger. He shall be greatly missed by his family, many friends and all whose lives he touched; but life for him has not ended but only begun in a better land. Yes, another soldier has made it home. A celebration of his life service will be conducted Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Phillips and Rev. Gabriel Beady officiating. The interment will follow at the Warrenville Cemetery with Full Military Honors. His grandsons and Irvin Cato, Tommy McElveen, Ronnie Maxwell and Butch Doolittle will serve as Honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Napier Funeral Home, Saturday evening, July 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials, in Mr. Beard’s honor, may be made to the Fellowship of Truth Church Building Fund, 571 Whaley Pond Rd., Graniteville, S.C. 29829. Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Graniteville, S.
