Helen Ruth Johnson Barton

BARTON– Helen Ruth Johnson Barton entered into rest on Monday, January 28, 2013, while residing at a Rome, Georgia nursing home. Her deceased parents were Mary Elizabeth Adams Johnson and John Quincy Johnson, Her nine brothers and sisters all predeceased her.

She is survived by a nephew, John Arthur Johnson, who grew up as her younger brother. Her husband of seventy-two years and her eldest son, Jere Alan Barton died prior to her. She is survived by a son, John Gary Barton and his wife, Sara; her daughter-in-law, Barbara; grandson, Daniel Meade Barton and his wife, Jennifer; granddaughter, Sharon Denise Barton Flores and her husband Gerardo; and grandson, Jere Alan Barton, II. Her great grandchildren are Gerardo Flores, Jr., Coleman John Barton and Nathan Edward Barton. She is also survived by other nieces and nephews. Helen Barton was a retired school teacher having spent the majority of her career teaching sixth grade at Byrd Elementary School in Graniteville, S.C. She will be buried beside her husband at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Langley, S. C., on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Friends and family who wish to attend the burial service are invited to gather at the gravesite shortly before 1:00 PM. Visitation will follow at 2:00 PM at Warrenville First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at the church at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Warrenville First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 338, Warrenville, S.C. 29851, where she and her husband taught Sunday School for over forty years, and where both of her sons were baptized.
