George Elton Simmons, Sr.

December 31, 1969 — February 19, 2016

SIMMONS-George Elton Simmons, Sr., age 78, of Warrenville, S.C., went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2016. He was born in Jumping Branch,WV on July 18, 1937 to Acil F. and Lettie C. Meador Simmons. After working in and around the Washington, DC area, he moved to Warrenville, S.C. in 1979 to continue a long career as an engineer, earning awards for designs, and manufacturing parts that improved performance and efficiencies. After retirement from Kimberly Clark, he pursued his love of engineering, designing and inventing for friends, family and clients. Most people who knew him said: “If it can be fixed, George can fix it. If it can be built, George can build it.” Mr. Simmons was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Warrenville. He used his talents to serve the Lord on the Building and Grounds Committee, the Sound System Engineer, and Sunday School Teacher. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Lillian E. Simmons and a daughter, Ruth E. Simmons. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Suzanne Bone Simmons; a son, George E. (Aldine) Simmons, Jr.; a daughter, Nancy (Ed) Murphy; stepdaughter, Shelley (Jeff) Gates; nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Sunday afternoon, February 21st from 3:00 until 5:00 PM. A service, celebrating his life and home going will be held at the First Baptist Church of Warrenville, S.C. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Arthur Zawislak and Rev. J. B. Redd officiating. The interment will follow the service at the Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Adam Harman, Bobby Wood, Carl Brack, Jr., Lucas Reason, Robin Cowart and Terry Beck. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Al Joniac, Bobby Hydrick, Carl Brack, Sr., Furman Redd, Joe Clary and John Swearingen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, South Carolina Chapter, 150 Westpark Blvd., Ste. 150, Columbia, S.C. 29210.
