GEORGE "PETE" M DURDEN

DURDEN-Mr. George McKinley (Pete) Durden, Jr., age 83, of Warrenville, S. C., beloved husband for 62 years to Jean Stinson Durden and son of the late George M. Durden, Sr. and the late Gertrude Youmans Durden, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 5, 2010. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Durden Dean and Robert Dean; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny M. Durden and Nancy Rieker Durden; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl, Sr. and Audrey Durden; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Melvin Lowe; grandchildren, Carly Dean Kirkley, Cory Dean, Cassie Dean, Elizabeth D. (Michael) Greene, Cheryl Durden, John Durden and three great grandchildren. He was born in Wrens, Georgia but has been a lifetime resident of Aiken County, S.C. He was retired from United Merchants/Valchem Divison. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a life member and Past Master of Star Lodge #99 AFM, 32 degree Scottist Rite Mason and member of Jamil Shrine. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville. He shall be greatly missed by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched during the 83 years that God granted him on this earth; earth’s loss is truly Heaven’s gain. A celebration of his life service will be conducted on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Earl Durden, Jr., Steve Durden, Ladd Britt, Larry Britt, Jim Peters, W. H. Kirkland, Billy Ray Kirkland, Keith Johnson and Rhett Johnson. Members of Star Lodge #99 AFM will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday evening, December 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 38, Graniteville, S. C. 29829. Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main Street, Graniteville, S. C. is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
