She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rish and two granddaughters, Susan New and Dee Anna Smith. She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. She had a degree in homemaking as she worked long hours on a farm helping provide food for her family, and she was also an expert seamstress as she made all the clothes her family wore. She was a member of the Order of Amaranth, Ladies of the Nobles, Aiken County Shrine Club and worked for the Foster Grandparents Program at North Aiken Elementary School for thirteen years; twelve years with the same second grade teacher, Mr. Curtis Dawkins. Most of all, she was a dedicated member of Redds Branch Baptist Church in Aiken, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and every other job where needed, she was always willing to serve. Just last year, she was honored by the church for serving as church clerk for forty years. Yes, she was a saintly Christian lady who would help any and everybody. The world would be a much better place with more people like Ms. New. Needless to say, she shall be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 91 years that God granted her on this earth; however life for her has not ended, she has just gone to her Heavenly home to receive her much deserved “Crown of Lifeâ€. A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Redds Branch Baptist Church in Aiken with Rev. J. B. Redd, Rev. Gary Hanna and Rev. Stephen Phillips officiating.
