Ethel “Peggy” Bennett, 100, of Jacksonville, MD and Aiken, SC died on Friday, October 18, 2024 at The Place at Shadow Oaks, SC. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Bennett, Sr.
Born September 24, 1924, in Parkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Wilson. She went on to becoming a beautician affectionately known as Peggy. She met Charles at the carnival in Hereford, MD. October 2, 1949, Charles and her married and started the family in Northwood, MD. In August 1962, they moved to Jacksonville, MD. She opened Peggy’s Beauty Salon and continued to grow the family.
Ethel loved to sew and crochet. Charles and her would take many road trips, some for the day or up to three weeks. They enjoyed the beauty of the United States, Canada and Mexico. She continued to live in her home after the passing of Charles in January 2017, until March 2020. Ethel moved in with her daughter, Debbie. In September 2022, she moved to Aiken, SC where her eldest son Charles lives. She lived out the rest of her life at The Place at Shadow Oaks, where we were fortunate to celebrate her 100 th birthday.
She is survived by her children Charles E. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Jo Ann Crystal of Aiken, SC; Larry D.Bennett and his wife Vickie Bennett of White Hall, MD; Debra J. Zimmerman of Joppatowne, MD. Her seven grandchildren Michael Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Jonathan Bennett, Katherine Bennett, Jeremy Bennett, Kayla Kurzmiller and Tyler Zimmerman and her five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her seven sisters and one brother.
Family and friends will honor Ethel’s life at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Phoenix, MD. The service will beat 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Purple Heart.
