ESTHER B. MELTON

MELTON- Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 4, 2010, Mrs. Esther Burckhalter Melton, age 81 of Graniteville, S. C., loving wife for 61 years to Mr. Otis E. Melton and daughter of the late Ira Burckhalter and the late Louise Talbert Burckhalter. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Otis Earl Melton, Jr. of Graniteville, S. C. and Jefrey Melton of Alabama; a sister, Janette B. Cushman of North Carolina; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Melton Franklin and a sister, Shirley Sauls. She was born in Graniteville, S. C., where she has been a resident for over 50 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Graniteville; there she was a member of the choir, a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and had served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Church Women Diocese of upper South Carolina. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a real sweet, quite and gracious lady; yes, she could be referred to as a real “Southern Lady,” and her friendly smile always stood out and was the reason she had many friends, who loved her dearly. Needless to say, she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched along the way; however, life for Mrs. Melton has not ended; just only begun in a better land. She has gone to receive her much deserved “Crown of Life.” A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Douglas Puckett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. The interment will be private.
