Elsie Helmey Marchman

December 31, 1969 — April 23, 2011

MARCHMAN- Mrs. Elsie Helmey Marchman, age 99, of Aiken, S. C., wife of the late Sumner F. Marchman and daughter of the late Clifford E. Boatwright. Sr. and the late Cornelia Helmey Boatwright, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 23, 2011. She is survived by a special nephew, niece and caregivers, Donald and Deanne Orr of Aiken, S.C. and a number of other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katie B. Orr; a brother, Clifford E. Boatwright, Jr. and a sister, Eudelle Trawick Stallings. She was born in Wilkinson County, Georgia and was a lifelong resident of Tennille, Ga. until relocating to Aiken, S.C. in 2004. She was the oldest living member of the Tennille United Methodist Church in Tennille, Ga, where she was a former choir member, taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a chartered member of Wesleyan Service Guild. Yes, she was a loving Christian lady and up to her failing health, she was very active in her church, always putting her Lord first in her life, and He honored her faithfulness by granting her 99 precious years on this earth. She will be missed by her family and friends, but there is a consolation in knowing that she has now made it home where she will have eternal life. A service celebrating her life and home going will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of May & Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville, Ga. with Rev. William C. Moody, Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Ramus Freeman officiating. The interment will follow at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille, Ga. The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorials, in Mrs. Marchman’s honor, may be made to Tennille United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 265, Tennille, Ga. 31089. Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Graniteville, S. C. 29829 is in charge of the local arrangements and May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville, Ga. will be in charge of the arrangements there.
