AUTRY-Mrs. Ellen Amanda DeLozier Autry, age 97, wife of the late Velmon E. Autry, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 12, 2011. Mrs. Autry was born in Pleasant Hill, New Mexico on December 8, 1913. Since her husband worked with the Veterans Administration, he, along with his family traveled to many states, including Utah, Maryland, Ohio, Washington State and Illinois; finally ending up in Augusta, Ga., where she resided for the past 45 years. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Blanche Pierce (99) of Whitney, Texas; three sons, Larry (Avis) Autry of Pittsboro, N.C., Carry (Peggy) Autry of Batesburg, S.C. and James (Barbara) Autry of Augusta, Ga.; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years; a son, Elmon Lee; brothers, Herran Eldridge and sisters, Vivian, Irene and Louise. Ellen was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved cooking for her many friends and family. She enjoyed working in the yard and was an avid animal lover. After her husband, Velmon, retired, they became RVer's and traveled with friends and relatives to many places; Alaska, Canada, Mexico and all over the U.S. Mrs. Autry was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church in Augusta, Ga. A celebration of her life service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. The entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Graniteville, S.C. The pallbearers will be Don DeLoach, Marty DeLoach, Jason Autry, Chris Dexter, Will Blackwell and Tony Nappier. The family will receive friends at Napier Funeral Home, tonight, Tuesday, February 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her church family for all their prayers and cards during her illness. They would also like to express their gratitude to University Home Health and Odessey Hospice for the great care and support. A special "thanks" is also extended to Dr. Phillip Kennedy and staff for their support and compassion.
