STRINGER-Mrs. Eleanor Morris Stringer, age 87 of Aiken, S.C., loving wife for 65 years to Charlie Eugene Stringer, Jr. and daughter of the late George Clinton Morris and the late Addie Chapman Morris, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 14, 2012. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter; T’Lene (Bruce) Stringer Cook of Aiken; sons, Chuck (Annette) Stringer of Corinth, Mississippi and Chris (Joan) Stringer of Aiken; a sister, Evelyn Sikes of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; two step- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lilly Poythress. She was born in Savannah, Ga. but has been a resident of Aiken County for the past 57 years. She was a volunteer at the Aiken Museum and Aiken Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, Houndslake Country Club and Fox Chase Women’s Club. She was a Register Nurse with a Masters Degree in Nursing Administration and a Doctorial candidate. She was a member of the University Hospital Nursing Alumni Association and the S. C. Organization of Retired Executives. She was also a member of the National League of Nursing and the American Nurses Association. She was a member of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She belonged to the S.C. Nurses in Business Association. She worked at several local area hospitals including University, St. Joseph’s, Eugene Talmadge and the Medical College of Ga. as an RN, and also as a nursing instructor at the Medical College of Ga. She was Assistant Director of Nursing at Ga. Regional Hospital in Augusta. In addition, she worked at the VA Hospital in Augusta, Ga. as Director of Psychiatric Nursing. In S.C., she worked at Aiken County Hospital as an RN. She was an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Dept. of Nursing at the University of S.C., Aiken. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; however she shall live on in their hearts forever. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Monday evening, July 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating her life and home going will be held Tuesday, July 17th at 11:00 AM at Millbrook Chapel in Aiken, S.C. with Rev. Eddie Leopard officiating. The interment will take place the same day at 4:00 PM at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Ga. Memorials in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, S.C. 29210 or to a charity of one’s choice.
