NAPIER-Mr. David Leroy “Roy†Napier, age 80, of Langley, S.C., loving husband of 58 years to Mildred Walker Napier and son of the late William E.Napier and the late Bernice Barfield Napier, entered into eternal rest at his residence on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind a wonderful family, including sons, Wade Napier, Scottie Napier and his wife Beth; a daughter, Lisa Workman and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Andy Napier, Nicholas Workman, Tammy Bryant, Tristan Whitehead; great granddaughters, Addison and Kayla; a brother Sammie Napier and wife, Glenda; a sister, Gloria Gunter; brother-in-law, Jack Walker and wife, Wanda; a very special cousin, Zora NeSmith and the NeSmith/Carter family. Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Dot Harrington. To know Roy was to love him. He was a kind and gentle man, who loved his Lord, his family, his church family and his many friends. He especially loved to play his guitar and sing country music. He wrote many songs over the years with “Santa Claus Boogie†being the kids favorite. Roy also loved to tell stories of his memories through the years He was a great story teller, making the ordinary seem outstanding. Roy served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked 30 dedicated years at Norwood VA Hospital in Augusta, Ga., receiving many high achievement awards. After serving as an active deacon for many years, he received the honor of Deacon Emeritus in 2012. He and a fellow deacon, Bobby Langley, now deceased, visited many homes weekly with a shut-in tape ministry. This was a blessing for them, as well as the ones visited. Roy taught Sunday School for many years and was active in many aspects of his Lord’s beloved Bath First Baptist Church. He continued to be a part of the teller committee as long as his health allowed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Friday evening, July 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating his life and home going will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bath First Baptist Church with Rev. Herb Sons officiating. The interment will follow at the Graniteville Cemetery. Roy will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers from Trinity Hospice Service of Aiken, especially Tracy and Ginger.
