David Lee Churchman, age 73, died on Friday, May 10, 2024 at his home in Graniteville, South Carolina. He was born on January 21,1951 in Belleville, Illinois. He lived in California in his early years. During high school his family relocated to Odenton, Maryland and David attended and graduated from Arundel Senior High School in 1969. There, he met the love of his life, Estella Mae Posey.
After high school, David enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country for over 20 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant, and retiring in 1990. He married Estel on July 31, 1971, and they lived in Michigan, England, Las Vegas, Okinawa, Georgia, and Easton, Maryland. During this time David pursued, and was conferred a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of Maryland in Okinawa in 1982. David became interested in tax preparation and bookkeeping, working for several years before opening his own business in Laurel, Maryland; DLC Taxes in 1993. He was a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants for 36 years. David continued running his business even as he relocated to Graniteville, South Carolina in order to be closer to his extended family.
David and Estel have always had God at the center of their life. Both were baptized as Baptists at their request during childhood and they continued to be members of several Baptist churches in their lives. They raised their children as children of God. David was known for his beautiful tenor voice which he used to praise God as part of many church choirs. David enjoyed the social life of the church as well. He loved traveling, amusement parks, eagles, the Dallas Cowboys, and most of all, his family.
David is preceded in death by his mother Sue, and father, David Sr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Estel, and his brother Dennis. He is also survived by his three daughters and son in law; Nicole and Mike Miller, and Adrienne, as well as his adopted daughter, Anna. He also leaves 12 grandchildren; Erica and Jacob Burke, Michael, Daniel, Stephen, Bella, Zoey, Gabriel, Amanda, Richard, Andrew, and Christopher. He also continues his legacy through three great grandchildren; Serenity, Ashdon, and Seraphina.
There will be a graveside funeral service at Graniteville Cemetery on Friday, May 17th at 11:00 A.M. Luncheon will be provided by Breezyhill Baptist Church for friends and family after the interment.
