FIELDS-Ms. Clara Hicks Fields, age 90, of Langley, S. C., wife of the late Ralph H. Fields and daughter of the late Willie J. Hicks and Ora Lee Bridges Hicks, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 31, 2011. She is survived by two sons, Donald Fields of Langley and Michael (Iris) Fields of Burnettown, S.C.; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons; Richard Fields and Larry Fields; brothers, Delmas Hicks, W. C. Hicks, Loyd Hicks and Irving Hicks; sisters, Selma Carter and Margaret Addie. She was born in Portal, Ga. but was raised in Emanuel County, Ga. She and her family moved to Langley over 70 years ago, and this is where she has lived ever since. She worked outside the home for many years; working for Riegel and Aiken Industries, prior to opening her own clothing store in Jackson, S.C. After retiring, she turned back to her #l passion; working in the yard with her beautiful flowers and plants. She also loved growing a garden each year, which produced many different varieties of abundant fresh vegetables. She was rewarded for her hard work one year by winning the local newspaper vegetable contest in the tomato category. After her health began to fail, she had to give up her love for working in the yard and garden. She was a former member of the Langley Church of the Nazarene, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She shall be greatly missed by her family, many friends and all whose lives she touched during the 90 years that God granted her on this earth; but there is a consolation in knowing that she has gone to a better place where life and love never ends. There will be many beautiful gardens for her to enjoy, while she receives her “Crown of Life.†A graveside service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memory Gardens in Langley, S.C. with Rev.
