Carlton Eugene Ashley

December 31, 1969 — July 16, 2013

ASHLEY-Mr. Carlton Eugene Ashley, age 86, of Langley, S.C., loving husband of 68 years to Annie Lou Ashley and son of the late Gilbert Dozier and Augusta Jane Stevens Ashley, entered into eternal rest at his residence early Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind a loving family, including daughters, Marsha J. (George) Webb, Arlean Ashley and a granddaughter, that he raised as his own, Sheron (Mark) Lawson; sons, Carldean (Linda Gale) Ashley, GW (Kay) Ashley, Darnell (Debra) Ashley and Kieth Ashley; also, Brian (Cathy) Yaun, a grandson that he also raised as his own; twenty grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Kirkland and Blanche McCorkle and five brothers, Edward Ashley, Vernon Ashley, Harry Ashley, Larry Ashley and Glenn Ashley. He was also known as Papa Ashley to countless people. To know Carlton Ashley was to love him. He loved his church; Langley Church of God, where he was a member for fifty-two years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Councilman, a Trustee and a Bus Driver. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and received the Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Asiatic/Pacific Service Medal. He was a retired truck driver with Johnson Motor Lines. After retirement, he worked for USCA as a Security Officer, operated his own lawn business and later worked at Harrison Hardware Store. He loved to garden and work outside. The family will receive friends at Langley Church of God, Langley, S.C. Thursday evening, July 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service celebrating his life and home going will be held at the church on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bennie Burton officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Pallbearers will be Ed Black, Delma Black, Gene Black, Donnie Boyd, Hale Prothman and James Cosnaham. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Langley Church of God Church Council members. Memorials, in his honor, may be made to Hope Ministries or the Langley Church of God Building Fund.
