SMITH-Bennie F. Smith, age 79, of Aiken, S.C., son of the late Willie Wilks Franklin and the late Cora Wilcher Franklin, entered into rest peacefully at his home on Monday, November 10, 2014 surrounded by his family and his wonderful and special nurses from Daybreak Adult Care. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Larry Stewart of Aiken, S. C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sandra Smith, of Aiken, S.C.; three grandchildren, Nathan (Bobbie Jo) Stewart of Fayetteville, N. C.; Amanda (Collin) Brook of Johnson City, TN. and Seth Smith of Greenville, S.C.; great grandchildren, Deacon Stewart, Blaiklee Cole Brooks and Kail Stewart. He was born in and grew up in Vaucluse, S.C. He was a US Navy Veteran, having bravely served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Aiken Masonic Lodge #157, the Aiken Shriners, and was a DeMolay Dad. He was a retired Health Physics manager at the Savannah River Site. He moved to Edisto Beach, S.C. after his retirement and lived there for 10 years. In October of 2000, Bennie moved to Johnson City, TN. to live with is daughter and son-in-law. In 2006, they returned to Aiken, where he lived up to his death. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Thursday evening, November 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A service, celebrating his life, will be held in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 3:00 PM with Brian McCuthen officiating.
