Angus Eugene Spires

December 31, 1969 — April 23, 2015

SPIRES-Angus Eugene Spires, Staff Sgt. US Army retired, age 89, of Warrenville, S. C., husband of the late Gwendolyn Whittle Spires and son of the late Robert Spires and the late Ellen Chitty Spires, entered into rest on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He is survived by a daughter, Angela S. (Tom) Christmas of Summerville, S.C.; sons, Robert E. (Susie) Spires of Aiken, S.C. and Calvin B. (Deborah) Spires both of Graniteville S.C.; a brother, Herbert Spires of Florida; grandsons, Christopher Christmas, Jason Christmas, Eric Christmas, Brunson Spires, Philip Spires, Mathew Spires and Dylan Johnson; granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson, Tiffani Johnson, Mandy Brant, Anna Stone, Amanda Hawkins, and Tonya Miller and a number of great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Jean Spires, sisters, Dorthy Spires, Alice Rhoden, Betty Bucannon, Julia Dudly and brothers, George J. Spires and Robert Spires, Jr. He was born in Langley, S.C. and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. He was a Veteran of World War II and Vietnam, retiring from the US Army with over 20 years of distinquished service. He was also retired from Garrett Aviation at Bush Field in Augusta, Ga. He was a FAA aircraft and engine mechanic for over 40 years. He shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends; however, there is a consolation in knowing that life for him has not ended as he has just made that great transition to his new Heavenly home. There no sad goodbyes are ever spoken in a land of endless tomorrows. Never again will he experience disappointments, sorrow, or sickness for now he is safe at home in the arms of Jesus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Saturday evening, April 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside service with full Military Honors, will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Glen Davis officiating.
